Forge de Laguiole

FORGE DE LAGUIOLE was founded in 1987 on the initiative of Gérard Boissins. Philippe Starck, one of the most important designers of the time, designed the spectacular atelier with an aluminum facade with a blade protruding 15 m above the building. The idea of ​​founding the Forge de Laguiole arose from a plan of the Chamber Commerce to promote the economy of the impoverished region, which also envisaged the resettlement of knife production in Laguiole, where it came to an end 70 years earlier. Charly Couttier, knife maker in Thiers, trained the first team of employees and today the manufacture employs 50 to 60 people, including until a few yers ago a “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”, Virgilio Munoz. She was awarded the Community Prize of the European Union for the corporate concept.

In addition to the production of the traditional Laguioles, numerous artists, architects and designers could be engaged to design the LAGUIOLE knives in a contemporary urban style. Many of these knives received internationally renowned design awards such as the Design+ Award at Ambiente in Frankfurt.
