The South-West of France is an old and mighty cultural landscape. Protected by the Pyrenees in the south, the sphere of influence once extended far into the center of France. The landscape and culture of this traditional region are just as fascinating as the stories that entwine around the knives, which have their roots here and which in turn refer to the eventful history.
Some have ancient roots that reach far before the Middle Ages, CAPUCIN, SAINT-AMANS, with sage leaf blades as forged by the Romans once, or the AGENAIS with Yatagan blades that the Crusaders brought with them from the Orient.
Others emerged in the Massif-Central in the 18th and 19th centuries, such as the YSSINGEAUX, from which numerous types of knives developed, such as the LAGUIOLE, which was to become perhaps the most famous knife in France. More information below with the respective knife types and in the book by Christian Lemasson.
