Actually not available. Le CROSSE [kʁɔs] c’est un couteau énigmatique ... the CROSSE is an enigmatic knife. You get this answer if you ask about the roots of this traditional pocketknife, which bears all the signs of a gentlemen's knife. At least we were able to find out that its origins are in the northwest of France, in the Pays-de-Loire. It had been made since the 19th century by the coutelier Vaucy who sold it at the markets along the Loire and closed his forge at the beginning of the 20th century selling all his tools to the coutelier Arthur Chosson in the Thiernois mountains. It is thanks to him that this unusual knife has been preserved for us.
Also the origin of the name has also not yet been clarified. Possibly it comes from the shape of the handle, which is shaped like a bishop's staff (French: crosse). It is also possible that a "crosse de fusil" is meant, a gun handle. Its flat handle made of blonde horn tip is orned by large rosettes. The CROSSE is an everyday knife, flat, easy to stow in the pocket, with its 11cm long handle of elegant and practical size and versatile with its Bourbonnaise blade.
