THE MONTPELLIER
Like seafaring in general, maritime pocketknives are a world of their own. What you need in this often rough job with its sometimes unpredictable elements is a "compagnon fidèl", a loyal companion, straightforward and reliable.
The MONTPELLIER is of this type. It is characterized by its broad blade with a steeply pointing downward point, with which one can cut ropes perfectly and which can function like a modern cutter, for example to cut a sailcloth if a sail has to be repaired. Its handle is uncompromisingly puristic and fits perfectly in the hand. With this knife you can effortlessly do a wide variety of jobs on board and you take your meals with it. At the end of the handle there is a hole for a lanyard.
As with many of France's regional knives, its roots are still unclear, but despite its age, its design can almost be considered a modern, functional shape. Like its brother, the CAPUCIN, it consists of only four parts: handle, blade and two pins, one of which represents the blade axis, the other holds the blade in open position.
It got its name perhaps from the city of Montpellier on the Mediterranean Sea, but perhaps from a sailing ship of the French Navy of the same name, on which it was part of the equipment of the sailors on board at the time.
