The PRADEL [pʁa.dɛl] takes its name from its manufacturer, who was originally based in north-west France and then moved to Thiers, where he found a better infrastructure for manufacturing and built up a significant production. Its second name is ANGLAIS because its shape and construction are inspired by the pocketknives that were made in the English knife metropolis of Sheffield.
The PRADEL originates from around 1867. They were popular with women and men and developed into the most common and widespread pocket knives in France. Like Swiss knives, they could house several blades and various tools, which also contributed to its popularity and widespread use.
The PRADEL was made on the basis of the traditional components in the PARAPLUIE atelier in Thiers, which once acquired the brand name and tools when Pradel sold his atelier. As a sign of its traditional roots and authenticity, it presents its mark on the blade.
