Bec-de-Corbin

The original name of the BEC-DE-CORBIN [bɛk.də.kɔʁ.bɛ̃] is LAGUIOLE. This pocketknife has the slim straight handle of the early LAGUIOLES, which were produced around 1850. It got its name from the characteristic end of the handle, which is called "bec de corbin" (Eng. crows lip) in the cutlery terminology. Instead of the classic Bourbonnaise blade of the first LAGUIOLES, the BEC-DE-CORBIN already has the Yatagan blade, which appeared in the evolution of the LAGUIOLES around 1880. Therefore, it combines the old shape of the LAGUIOLE with the one of the next generation with a curved handle that we know today.
The spring is forged, provided with a simple, time-typical decoration consisting of a few file lines and, like all LAGUIOLES at this time, has an oval “mouche” (fly). This detail is the remnant of an old mechanism for locking and over time has developed into a fly or bee, which is the "trademark" of the LAGUIOLES today.
The BEC-DE-CORBIN was forgotten after the First World War, but it never completely disappeared because it always had its lovers, who appreciated both the slim lines and classic beauty of the handle as well as the properties of a Yatagan blade.

The BEC-DE-CORBIN based on classic components was manufactured by the cutlery ARTO for PassionFrance. As a sign of their authenticity, they carry the seahorse, the ARTO blacksmith's brand, on their blade.
